Privacy — Plain and Simple Toddler

The short version: this app collects nothing about you or your child, and there is no Plain and Simple server for anything to be sent to.

What the app stores

Only the settings a parent chooses. Colour or outline; whether to show the picture's name; the background; how wide the tracing guide is; how many pictures Which One? and Shadows offer; which two baskets Quiet Sort uses; a gentler pace; whether small vibrations are on; whether the app says well done when a picture is finished; whether the lock engages automatically; whether you have seen the Guided Access explanation; and which activity and category you last opened.

They are kept on your device, and copied to your own iCloud key-value store so your iPhone and iPad match. That is a part of your personal iCloud account. We cannot read it, Apple does not give us access to it, and it does not pass through any server of ours. If you have iCloud switched off, the settings simply stay on the device.

What the app does not store

Nothing about your child.

Not which pictures they looked at. Not which ones they traced, or finished, or gave up on. Not how long they spent, not how many times they opened it, not how well they did.

This is a design decision rather than an omission. An app that keeps a record of what a two-year-old has completed invents a kind of pressure that this app exists to avoid, and it immediately raises the question of which child — which means profiles, which means a database of children. There is no such record, so there is nothing to ask for, leak, or subpoena.

What the app does not do

• No accounts. There is no sign-in of any kind, with Apple or otherwise.
• No advertising, and no advertising identifier.
• No analytics. Not ours, not anyone's — the app contains no analytics code, including the anonymised sort.
• No third-party SDKs of any kind.
• No tracking across apps or websites.
• No location, no contacts, no photos, no microphone, no camera.
• No purchases, no subscriptions, nothing to unlock.
• No network requests of its own. Every picture and every letter is in the app already; nothing is downloaded after you install it.
• The only links out of the app are on the Settings screen, which sits behind the arithmetic question described below: a link to the App Store to leave a review, a way to send someone the app, and the other apps we make. A small child cannot reach any of them without answering a sum.

Children

This app is for children, so this section is the important one rather than a formality.

It is rated 4+ and listed under Education. It is not in the Kids Category. It collects nothing from anyone of any age, so there is no children's data to handle differently — there is no data.

The parental gate, the absence of analytics and the absence of third-party code were all built to the stricter standard anyway, because who is holding the device does not change with a category label.

Under COPPA and the UK and EU rules for children's data, an app that collects nothing needs no consent flow, because there is nothing to consent to. We have not built one for the same reason we have not built an account system.

The settings screen sits behind a written arithmetic question, so a child cannot change what you have set up, and cannot reach the App Store rows. That gate is there to protect your settings and those links, not to collect anything.

Deleting your data

There is almost nothing to delete, but it is yours:

• On this device: delete the app.
• From iCloud: Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Plain and Simple Toddler → Delete Data. Or delete the app on every device and turn iCloud off for it.

We cannot delete it for you, because we cannot reach it.

Changes

If this ever changes, this page changes with it, with a new date at the top.
