Privacy Policy — Plain and Simple Health

Plain and Simple Health shows you the health data your iPhone already holds. Nothing it reads ever leaves your device. There is no network code in the app at all — not for analytics, not for updates, not for looking anything up — and a test fails the build if any appears.

What data the app accesses

• Apple Health, read-only, and only what you allow. Steps, sleep, workouts, exertion and the other metrics the app can display. You choose how much to share when you install it, and you can change your mind at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → PS Health. Every screen works with whatever you have allowed and says plainly when a figure is missing, rather than showing a zero.
• Your date of birth and your biological sex. The app reads both from Apple Health, because the published national reference table it uses to work out a population percentile is tabulated by age and by sex. It stores neither, and neither is sent anywhere. They are read when a percentile is calculated and discarded. This is stated here rather than left for "reads your health data" to cover, because those two feel different to people.
• The camera, in the food scanner only. To read the barcode on a packet, so you do not have to type the product in by hand. Nothing is photographed or kept. Because the food database is inside the app, nothing about what you scanned is looked up anywhere.
• What you type in. Food entries, your targets, and how you have arranged the tabs and the board are stored on your device.

The app does not access your contacts, your location, your photos, your microphone, or anything else.

What the app writes to Apple Health

Exactly one thing: the food you type in, and a run you recorded with the watch app.

Nothing the app calculates is ever written back — no score, no verdict, no percentile. Only figures you entered yourself.

The food database

The barcode scanner works against a database that ships inside the app. It is built from two sources: USDA FoodData Central, which is in the public domain, and Open Food Facts, which is licensed under the Open Database Licence (ODbL). The app names both on its method screen.

Because the database is bundled, scanning a product looks nothing up. It works with the phone in flight mode, and no record of what you scanned is created anywhere but on your own device.

Data the developer collects

None. The developer does not receive, collect, store or have any access to anything the app reads or anything you enter. There is:

• No account or sign-in.
• No analytics or tracking of any kind.
• No third-party servers, SDKs, or advertising networks.
• No network requests at all — the app has no way to make one.
• No selling or sharing of data — the developer never sees it in the first place.

The app is declared as "Data Not Collected" on its App Store privacy label, with no exceptions.

Data storage and deletion

• What you enter is stored only on your device, shared between the app, its widget and the watch app. Deleting the app removes it.
• Your health data lives in Apple Health, managed by you. To delete any of it, use the Health app directly — this app cannot delete anything it did not write.
• You can take your data out at any time: any metric, over any range you choose, as a CSV or as JSON Lines.

Children's privacy

The app collects no data from anyone. It is not directed at children and gathers no personal information.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this same URL with a new "Last updated" date.
