Support — Plain and Simple Health

The app shows what Apple Health already holds on your phone. Most problems are about what it has been allowed to see.

Note that iOS shows the app as PS Health — under the icon on your Home Screen, and in Settings. That is the same app.

A figure is missing, or shows a dash

A dash means the app has nothing to show, and that is nearly always one of two things.

  • It has not been allowed to read that metric. Check Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → PS Health and switch on what you want it to see. The app asks for read access only.
  • Nothing has been recorded. Some metrics need a watch, and some need you to have carried the phone. The app deliberately shows a dash rather than a zero, because those are different claims.

I allowed access and it still shows nothing

Apple Health permissions are per-metric, so allowing "some" is easy to do by accident. Open the same Settings screen and check the specific row, not just that the app is listed.

If you have just granted access, open the app again — it reads when a screen appears, not in the background.

The barcode scanner will not scan

The scanner needs camera access. Check Settings → PS Health → Camera.

If it scans but does not recognise a product, that product is not in the bundled database. The database ships inside the app and is built from USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts; it is large but not complete, and there is no lookup to fall back on, because the app cannot reach the internet. You can still enter the food by hand.

The widget or the watch app is not updating

Both read the same data as the app. If the app itself shows a figure and the widget does not, give it a few minutes — iOS decides when a widget refreshes and is deliberately conservative about it.

Getting your data out

Export, in the app, hands back any metric over whatever range you pick — a CSV that opens in Numbers, Excel or Google Sheets, or JSON Lines if you would rather script against it.
